About Jack

Zimmerman, raised in a small town in Minnesota, joined the U.S. Army as an Airborne Infantryman and deployed in 2010 with the legendary 101st Airborne Division. During a nine-month tour of intense combat, Zimmerman stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while on a foot patrol, suffering catastrophic injuries. As he lay there, his life flashed before his eyes, while his platoon medic and teammates worked to save him as the rest of the team engaged the enemy. Zimmerman was not expected to survive, but after 20 surgeries and two years of recovery, he left the San Antonio Military Medical Center and medically retired from the U.S. Army. Back home, his friends, family, and community rallied around him. Zimmerman faced many challenges in his first months home, struggling to find his purpose after leaving the military. Yet, through opportunities to serve, both personally and professionally, he found a renewed passion for speaking and inspiring others with his unique and resilient perspective. Today, Zimmerman is a devoted father, and an integral part of his community. His love for the outdoors has grown, and he is now an avid hunter and outdoorsman. His time spent in nature has been a source of healing and renewal, and it's through these outdoor adventures that he has discovered a new sense of purpose and strength. Whether traveling the country to inspire others, sharing stories from his hunting expeditions, or promoting patriotism through his race team, Zimmerman continues to seek new adventures that connect him with both his past and his future. His latest book delves into these outdoor journeys—highlighting how the wilderness and the act of hunting have helped him heal, rediscover himself, and find peace in the most unlikely of places.
